The GCFA Board holds its final meeting of the year

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A meeting of the Steering Committee of the General Council for Finance and Administration (GCFA) in the fourth quarter of 2021 was held on Wednesday, December 1 via Zoom.

In its work, the GCFA Committee:

  • Certification approved for 24 persons from the certification class of the Professional Association of the United Methodist Connection Structure (PAUMCS). This virtual class is larger than the previous year.
  • It received and approved a report from the Committee on Fiduciary, Foundation and Property Affairs (CFFPM) to amend the minimum insurance requirements for annual conferences and local churches. These changes will benefit many small united Methodist churches looking for adequate security. The change of request takes effect immediately.
  • The recommendations of the Committee on General Agency and Episcopal Affairs (GAEM) for the spending plans of all general church agencies and other united Methodist entities, as well as the spending plan for the Episcopal Fund, as required each year, were approved.
  • The revised four-year general budget of the Church was approved on the basis of information received from the GAEM Committee. The revised four-year budget includes the results of a survey obtained from the leadership of the annual conference that ended in the fall of 2021. The budget will be revised again before the postponed 2022 General Conference.
  • Approved sale of GCFA office at 1 Music Circle North. Bishop Michael McKee, president of the GCFA, said: “These are historic times for the agency. The GCFA moved from Evanston, Illinois to Nashville in 2005 and consolidated locations in an effort to be a good manager of United Methodist resources entrusted to the agency. This sale and relocation is another step in the ongoing management effort. ”

Noting that the meeting was held virtually when the annual fall meeting was planned earlier this year as a personal gathering, Bishop McKee said: “We are grateful to board members, staff and others who virtually attended our final meeting of the year. Flexibility and understanding of last-minute change is proof that we all take our roles seriously. I pray that during this Advent season we will all find reasons to celebrate and be safe in the community and work with others. ”
